Tag question কী?
A tag question is a small question that comes at
the end of a statement to check whether
something is true, or to ask for agreement.
অর্থাত্ Taq question হলো কোনো বাক্যের
শেষে জুড়ে দেওয়া ছোট্ট একটি প্রশ্ন, যা দ্বারা
জানতে চাওয়া হয়, বক্তা যা বলছে, তা সত্য কি না, কিংবা
বক্তার সঙ্গে শ্রোতা একমত কি না।
Tag question-এর মূল বাক্য বা Statement-টি হলো
বক্তার assumption, অর্থাত্ অনুমান বা ধারণা। Tag
question হতে পারে Positive বা Negative। বক্তার
অনুমান বা ধারণা যদি Positive বা হ্যাঁসূচক হয়, তবে মূল
বাক্য বা Statement হবে Positive এবং Tag question
হবে Negative। পক্ষান্তরে, বক্তার অনুমান বা ধারণা
যদি Negative বা নাসূচক হয়, তবে মূল বাক্য বা
Statement হবে Nagative এবং Tag question হবে
Positive।
অন্যভাবে আমরা বলতে পারি, বক্তা যদি Positive
উত্তর প্রত্যাশা করে, তবে তার Statement হবে
Positive এবং Tag question হবে Negative। আর
বক্তা যদি Negative উত্তর প্রত্যাশা করে, তবে তার
Statement হবে Negative এবং Tag question হবে
Positive।
Question Tag-এর গঠন :
একটি Auxiliary Verb (Be, Do, Have or Model
Auxiliaries) ও একটি Personal Pronoun (I, We, He,
She, They, You ও It) সমন্বয়ে Tag question গঠিত
হয়। Personal Pronoun-টি মূল Sentence বা
Statement-এর Subject-কেই নির্দেশ করে।
Negative tag question সব সময় Shortened বা
সংক্ষিপ্তভাবে ব্যবহৃত হয়। মূল Sentence বা
Statement-এর পর কমা (,) বসিয়ে তারপর Tag
question বসাতে হয়।
Tag Questions
নিচে Tag Question-এর নিয়মাবলি বিস্তারিত আলোচনা
করা হলো :
Rule 1 : মূল Sentence বা Statement যদি Affirmative
হয়, তবে Tag question-টি Negative হয়। Negative
tag question সর্বদা Contracted/Shortened form
হয়—
You are listening to me, aren’t you?
He has helped you, hasn’t he?
You will help us, won’t you?
You should study regularly, shouldn’t you?
Rule 2 : মূল বাক্য বা Statement যদি Negative হয়,
তবে Tag question-টি Affirmative হয়—
You are not playing, are you?
He is not a player, is he?
You didn’t know him, did you?
You won’t tell this to others, will you?
Rule 3 : মূল বাক্যে যদি কোনো ধরনের
Auxilary Verb না থাকে, এমনকি মূল Verb রূপে যদি
Be-ও না থাকে, তবে Tag Question করতে do,
does বা did ব্যবহৃত হয়—
You like it here, don’t you?
Hasan still works here, doesn’t he?
He played for Mohammedan, didn’t he?
Milk gives us energy, doesn’t it?
Rule 4 : Have, has বা had যদি বাক্যে মূল verb
রূপে ব্যবহৃত হয়, তাহলে Tag question-এ do, does
বা did হয়—
We have some new books, don’t we?
He has a nice garden, doesn’t he?
She had a nice voice, didn’t she?
She hasn’t any books, does she?
কিন্তু এ জাতীয় বাক্যে Tag question-এ have, has
বা had-ও ব্যবহৃত হতে পারে—
He has a problem, hasn’t he?
She had a nice voice, hadn’t she?
She hasn’t any brothers, has she?
Rule 5 : মূল বাক্যে যদি Have got বা has got থাকে
এবং তা মালিকানা (possession), আত্মীয়তা/সম্পর্ক
(relationships) বা বৈশিষ্ট্য (characteristics)
নির্দেশ
করে, তবে Tag question-এও have/has বসে—
You have got a nice garden, haven’t you?
You haven’t got any money, have you?
She has got black eyes, hasn’t she?
I have got many friends, haven’t I?
Rule 6 : মূল বাক্য বা Statement-এ যদি দুই বা তার
বেশি Auxiliary Verb থাকে, তবে Tag question-এ
প্রথম Auxiliary Verb-টি ব্যবহৃত হয়—
He has been waiting for you, hasn’t he?
We have not been working since morning, have
we?
Rule 7 : I am/ I’m-এর জন্য Tag question হবে
aren’t I? কখনও amn’t I? হবে না। তবে ain’t I?
হতে পারে, কিন্তু এটি আধুনিক ইংরেজিতে কম
ব্যবহৃত হয়—
I am late, aren’t I?
I’m always with you, aren’t I?
I am to do it, aren’t I?
I’m your best friend, aren’t I?
কিন্তু মূল বাক্যে যদি সংক্ষিপ্ত রূপ I’II থাকে, তবে
Tag question-এ shall I? হবে—
I’II tell you everything, shall I?
I’ll help you, shall I?
Rule 8 : Imperative Sentence-এর পর Tag
question রূপে will you?, won’t you?, can you?,
can’t you?, would you?, could you? ইত্যাদি বসে—
Give me your hand, will you?
Switch on the light, won’t you?
Help me with these bags, could you?
Shut up, can’t you?
Add-7
Please help us, will you? won’t you?
কিন্তু Imperative Sentence-টি যদি Negative হয়,
তবে Tag Questions-এ শুধু Will you? বসে—
Don’t forget to post my letter, will you?
Don’t tell this to others, will you?
Don’t neglect your studies, will you?
Rule 9 : Be verb যুক্ত Exclamatory Sentence-এর
পর Tag Question রূপে isn’t/aren’t?/weren’t?
বসে—
How nice the garden is, isn’t it?
What a heavy box it was, wasn’t it?
What a mess he was in, wasn’t he?
কিন্তু Main verb বা Action Verb যুক্ত Exclamatory
Sentence-এর পর Tag question রূপে don’t/
doesn’t/didn’t বসে—
How well she played, didn’t she?
What a nice story he told, didn’t he?
How well he explains everything, doesn’t he?
Rule 10 : Let’s দ্বারা যখন প্রস্তাব বা পরামর্শ
(Proposal বা Suggestion) বোঝায়, তখন Tag
Question-এ shall we? বসে—
Let’s go out for a walk, shall we?
Let’s have a party, shall we?
Let’s settle the dispute, shall we?
Let’s eat something, shall we?
কিন্তু Let দ্বারা যখন অনুমতি (Permission) চাওয়া
বোঝায়, তখন Tag Question-এ will you? বসে—
Let them play here, will you?
Let us use your room for two days, will you?
Let him be with us, will you?
Rule 11 : মূল বাক্যের Subject যদি everyone/
everybody, someone/somebody, anyone/anybody,
no one/nobody, none বা neither হয়, তবে Tag
Question-এ they বসে—
Nobody helps you, do they?
Everybody says so, don’t they?
No one was present there, were they?
